22nd Annual Children's Christmas Store

New Image Emergency Shelter for the Homeless, Inc. (New Image) held its 22nd Annual Children’s Christmas Store, Sunday, December 18, 2016, which provided toys, a pair of shoes, supermarket gift cards, refreshments, and a visit with Santa, for children of homeless and low-income families. Despite budget cuts and limited funding, “The Twins” (Co-Founders) sponsored the event with donations from community advocates, leaders, social service agencies and businesses. The families were pre-qualified as being the neediest of the needy by local businesses, social service agencies, and churches. The ‘Christmas Store’ program allowed these families to acquire food for Christmas dinner, 4-5 toys/gifts for their children, in a joyous Winter Wonderland, filled wall-to-wall with toys, a Santa’s Cobbler Hut that provided shoes for the smallest and largest guests’, a ‘Santa’s Dollhouse’ where elves distributed dolls of all kinds, a Sports Center, Santa’s Baby House, a Board Game Center, and much more!

For the eight year, the Christmas Store was held at the Westin Long Beach Hotel, from 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. The event was by ‘Invitation only’. This year, New Image served 671 pre-qualified families with 1,707 children, and will continue to serve families through January 15, 2017.

The event was attended by Rhonda Love (representative from the Long Beach Mayor
’s Office), Music Legend Charles Wright, and included the following Celebrity Elves: Romeo Miller (Empire), Leah Danies-Butler (Casting Director ‘Empire’), Renee Lawless (Have and Have Nots), Kandi Burrus (Atlanta Housewives), India Williams (Miss California USA 2017), Darius McCrary (Star & Family Matters), Jackie Long (Real Husbands of Hollywood), Wendell James (Raising Whitley); with a special opening number from Sonia Gallardo, Singer (CSULB).
