Dwight Dewayne Selma Sr. was born on October 20, 1962, in Birmingham, Alabama to Earnest Selma Sr. and Mary Madison Selma. Dwight was the youngest of his siblings. Dwight became affectionately known as "JJ" to his family and friends.
In 1963, the family moved to Los Angeles, California. Dwight graduated Adolph Leuzinger High school in Lawndale, California class of 1980. Shortly after, he enrrolled in El Camino College seeking to further his education. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. Dwight played the organ for the New Providence Baptist Church for numerous years.
On December 15,1986, he began employment with the Los Angeles Unified School District where he worked as a Plant Manager for 32 years. Dwight was very skilled with his hands as was self-reliant. He loved working on and restoring old classic cars which was a passion embedded in him since the tender age of 15. He has the uncanny ability to build these beautiful cars from unwanted car parts and old thrashed vehicles from junk yards without any help or assistance from a mechanic.
Throughout his life, his garage had been home to over 50 of his classic cars. In addition to his loce for automobiles, Dwight also had a passion for music. He would spend much of his leisure time playing the bass guitar and the piano as he was self-taught with both instrumets.
On December 28, 1991, Dwight married Denise Gaines and to this union four beautiful children were born: Dwight Jr., Deion. Denisha, and Deshon.
In 2006, Dwight reconnected with long time friend Francine Law. They married on Valentines Day 2015.
Dwight was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Selma, father, Earnest Selma Sr., his sister, Patricia Busbee, and his nephew, Erick Selma.
Dwight leaves to cherish his memories, wife Francine Selma, his four children: Dwight Jr., Deion Selma, Denisha Selma, and Deshon Selma; his four stepchildren: Karla Selma (Earnest), Tony Law (Illianna), April Law and Ms. Keisha Lawson (Curtis); two brothers: Earnest Selma Jr.(Veronica), Michael Selma Sr. (Angeles); one sister Angela Selma; his very special niece and nephew, Maisha Jackson and Earnest Selma III; three aunts: Annie Walters, Frances Selma Ayres, and Sheila Selma, two uncles: David Selma Sr., and Walter Walters. Dwight also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and relatives and friends.
