In Loving Memory of Cellawese Ball

April 1, 1942 - August 12, 2018

Cellawese Ball was born in Jackson, Mississippi on April 1, 1942, to Robert Kelly and Ida Mae Dupree. She and her family relocated to Los Angeles, California in 1948. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age and was a member of the Solomon Baptist Church. Cellawese played a host of childhood games with her siblings, and as she got older, helped to take care of them. They called her Sister to signify the special role she played in their lives. Cellawese graduated John C. Fremont High School in 1960 having completed a vocational program in cosmetology.

In 1960, Cellawese married Louis Owens, Jr., and two daughters, Yolanda and LaSandra, were born into that union. During their marriage, she worked for her Aunt Anna at her laundry business. She also worked for many years at Lockheed Martin assembling parts for aircraft carriers. Cellawese remarried in 1972 to Clarence Ball. They enjoyed weekend getaways to their timeshare in San Clemente and turn around trips to Las Vegas. She also continued her education, completing a Certified Nursing Assistant program in 1980.

Cellawese was a faithful servant for the Lord and participated in church activities. She joined Holy Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in 1970 serving in the Prayer Band, the Usher Board, and the Choir. Outside of church, her social calendar was always full with her bowling league activities and casino trips with her social club. Cellawese loved to shop and was known for her ability to bargain with vendors always securing the best bargains. She was also an excellent cook and family looked forward to her soulful Thanksgiving Dinners.

Floral and interior design were two of her greatest passions. Her home was meticulously decorated, and she created elegant custom floral pieces to accent each room. She later turned those decorating talents into a business making hand-crafted custom floral arrangements for special occasions and events. Her customers would also hire her to design events and parties. When she grew older, she worked as a supervisor at the All City Crossing Guard Company making sure that children got to school safely.

Her two daughters always depended on Cellawese for her words of wisdom and encouragement, and her grandchildren were the loves of her life. She established Christmas Game Time, a lasting tradition that her children and grandchildren look forward to each year. She had the gift of gab and would keep everyone laughing in stitches from her special brand of humor. The birth of her great-granddaughter brought new joy and energy to her life, and she was beyond thrilled to welcome Adalynn to the world.

On August 12, 2018, in the wee hours of the morning, God called his faithful servant Cellawese home. Cellawese passed away surrounded by her daughters and swaddled in the comfort of their love. She is preceded in death by her husband Clarence Ball, and brother Robert Kelly, Jr. Left to celebrate her memory, are former husband Louis, daughters: Yolanda and LaSandra, three grandchildren: Roderick, Cassandra, and Catrina; great-granddaughter Adalynn, grandson-in-law Jerel, son-in-law Louis, siblings: Betty, Beverly, Lloyd, William, Sherri, Terry, Anne, Minnie, Larry, Leroy, Douglas, Ruth, Willie James, Minnie and Jerry; siblings-in-law Bobby, Earnestine, and Billie Jean, and a multitude of loving nieces and nephews, cherished cousins, and admired friends.
