and Pauline Horton; she was the fifth of nine siblings. Shirley became
known as "Cheryl" to
family and friends.
Cheryl started her education in the Los Angeles Unified School District, attending 96th Elementary School, Markham Junior High School, and graduating from Muhammad University of Islam, which at that time was, was Mosque #27 on Broadway, in Los Angeles, CA. Shortly after her marriage ended, she met Curtis Suttle. They got together, and to this union, 3 children were born, Ishimina, Sharmeen, and Shahid. Cheryl worked for a short time but decided at that time it was more important for her to become a stay-at-home mom.
Although Cheryl started her religious faith in the Nation of Islam, she ventured out and took an interest in embracing something new; she accepted Christ and was baptized. Cheryl attended local church services in her area.
Cheryl was always smiling and never hesitated to give compliments to others. She was a very sweet and caring person. Cheryl had an outgoing personality with a great sense of humor. Cheryl enjoyed entertaining, dancing, singing and was the life of the party. She was a good cook and homemaker; she enjoyed decorating and re-decorating her home. She also enjoyed purchasing gifts to give to others, especially scriptures and inspirational books.
Cheryl made friends easily, and once you became her friend, she was with you until the end. She was very protective of her family and was always working to keep the peace. She enjoyed life and those who loved her.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her father RC Johnson, stepfather Alfred Frazier, brothers: Edward D. Johnson "Donnie," Edward C. Johnson "EL-C" and sister Helen Johnson.
